Dear Blues Lover,

Hard to believe it's September! Where did the summer go? We’ve had a great month of events in August and have more to look forward to. A great group of musicians showed up to participate in the Hobo Junction Blues Jam Session on August 8th. This event continues to get bigger and better!

On Wednesday, August 28, we had a stellar crowd for Victor Wainwright and the Train. The band blew the roof off at Daryl’s House Club in Pawling. The evening opened with The Special Sauce Band, and we had an all-time great night. You can catch photos and video clips from the evening on the Hudson Valley Blues Society Facebook page. We anticipate future opportunities for our HVBS member bands to perform at shows, events, and showcases that are sponsored and co-hosted by HVBS. For future consideration, sign your band up with a Band/Musician membership. Visit our website at https://www.thehvbs.org/bands.html.

Thursday, August 29, Doug Deming and the Jewel Tones performed at the Falcon Underground in Marlboro. Some of our HVBS members were in attendance, and we appreciate the (several) shout outs for the Hudson Valley Blues Society from Doug.

Saturday, August 31, Anthony Geraci and the Boston Blues All-Stars performed at the Towne Crier in Beacon. What a band! They really brought their A-game! And a big treat was to have Hudson Valley’s own Fishkill George and TFM open the evening.

So, going forward…

Our next monthly HVBS meeting is Tuesday, September 3 (because of Labor Day). We meet the first Monday of the month at the Croton Falls Community Church, 628 NY-22, Croton Falls, NY 10519. Meeting 7:00 - 8:00 pm /Acoustic Jam Session 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm.  All are invited to attend. Consider joining us at a meeting and to find out more information about the Society. Our goal is to bring blues music and education to the Hudson Valley.

Thursday, September 5 is the next Hobo Junction Blues Jam Session at The Hopewell Inn, 488 NY-376, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533. It is held on the first Thursday of every month, 7 - 10 pm. All are welcome. There is a full back-line and house band. (No pedals/ boards please). Don't forget there is a full bar and food available. This has been a fun night of music and networking with local musicians. Come join the fun.

The Annual Patterson Rotary Blues & BBQ Festival is the weekend of September 14-15. This is a great weekend of music for the community. Music starts at noon on both days with an incredible listing of bands performing: Libertine Project, Gil Parris, Willa & Company, Petey Hop, Pat O'Shea, Roadhouse Roosters, Stomp Box Trio, Dylan Doyle Band, Peter Murchison, Chris O'Leary Band, Anthony Gach, and The Chris Raabe Band. We are very excited that many of the bands are members of HVBS. Stop by the Hudson Valley Blues Society booth to find out more about future projects, purchase a T-shirt or Koozie, or just say "hi".  For more info about the weekend…

The Hudson Valley Guitar Show is back on Friday and Saturday September 20 and 21 at the Mount Kisco Holiday Inn. Doors will be open to the public from 5-9pm Friday and 10am-5pm on Saturday. HVBS will once again have a booth, so stop by and say hello! For more information about the show, go to https://www.hudsonvalleyguitarshow.com/.

Save the date for Saturday, October 5 beginning at 5pm for our first Front Porch Blues Jam and Barbeque at the Croton Falls Community Church, 628 NY-22, Croton Falls. This event will be rain or shine! We anticipate having several of these events throughout the year. This is open to the community. Come play, listen, and enjoy. Check out our website for more information.

Mark your calendar for Friday, November 1, at The Falcon Underground, in Marlboro, NY, for our First Annual HVBS Blues Benefit. Please join us for some great music, outstanding food, drink, raffles, and more as we celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Hudson Valley Blues Society. It will be an evening of phenomenal song with the HVBS house band, led by musical director and emcee Petey Hop. The Falcon Underground is a New York Taproom that combines live music with a curated rock’n’roll museum, overlooking the Marlboro Falls. This is the one-of-a-kind venue to celebrate and make blues history in the Hudson Valley.

We will need help the evening of the big event with merchandise, raffle sales, and more, as well as soliciting local businesses for donations and sponsorship. Our marketing packets are ready to go, so we are ready to start now. Please let us know if you can help out as part of the street team. Contact us at info@thehvbs.org and we can give you more details. Remember the more successful this event is, the more you and our blues community can benefit from it.

We welcome our newest members: Kathleen Plumer, John Clancy and Chris Raabe Band to the Hudson Valley Blues Society family. And, if you haven't already done so, visit our website to learn more about our membership levels (i.e., individual, band, sponsorship). Help spread the word, we are looking to hit our 100 member mark for our one-year anniversary.

Our election of officers will be coming up soon, as we hit our one-year mark. If you are interested in joining our board, please contact us at hillfont@thehvbs.org. We have a lot of fun working together to reach our goals. However, we could use some additional team players.

Please follow us on Facebook and Instagram, as well as checking our website for updates and events. We continue to have many exciting projects in the pipeline, and we hope you will be part of them by volunteering or just attending.  Please spread the word about the Hudson Valley Blues Society!
