Dear Blues Lover,
Hope your Thanksgiving Day is going to be spent with family/friends, lots of good food, and (possibly) some great blues music.
Similar to that stuffed feeling after the big meal, is how we are summing up the year for the Hudson Valley Blues Society. We had a packed year of great music events and are already looking towards a full schedule for the upcoming year.
We started the year off in January with a sold out show at the Turning Point in Piermont with the Danielle Nicole Band. Then we just kept going through the year with blues music jams at the Hopewell Inn (Hopewell Junction) and Moonlight Cafe (Brewster), presented Blues at Bethany with Chris Bergson and Matt Raymond (Ossining) and Blues at Noon with the Agape Blues Company (Croton Falls), setup booths at the Hudson Valley Guitar Shows (Mt. Kisco), Brewster Music Festival (Brewster) and Patterson Blues and BBQ Festival (Patterson), brought Victor Wainwright and the Train to Daryl’s House with HVBS member band Special Sauce Band opening the show (Pawling), supported national blues acts Vanessa Collier, Keeshea Pratt Band, Nick Schnebelen Band at the Turning Point (Piermont), Doug Demming and the Jewel Tones at the Falcon (Marlboro), Anthony Geraci at the Towne Crier (Beacon), and Slam Allen at Lucy’s Lounge (Pleasantville), held our first Front Porch Jam (Croton Falls) with a performance by Chris Raabe and gave opportunities to our HVBS member bands to perform at various venues.
Our big event for the year was the First Annual HVBS Blues Benefit on November 1st at the Falcon Underground, Marlboro, NY. What an unbelievable night of music directed by Petey Hop with many musical guests. The reviews came in...
"The Hudson Valley Blues Society put on a helluva party for their one year anniversary celebration. It was smooth and efficient, and a whole lot of fun. These folks truly have their act together. What a wonderful addition to The Hudson Valley Music Scene." - Big Joe Fitzpatrick
“The Hudson Valley Blues Society hosted an amazing event at the Falcon. If their mission is uniting musicians with supporters, venues and each other, mission accomplished. Great house band, talented guests and generous musicianship all the way around. This is the way to keep the blues thriving in all of its forms and styles.” - Lex Grey
“I’m glad we finally have a blues society that’s partnering with local musicians and venues to increase the reach and visibility of the blues community here in the Hudson Valley.” - Willa Vincitore
So as you can see, the Hudson Valley Blues Society Board is working endlessly to bring musicians, fans and venues together. But we can always use help to continue our goals. Please consider the following:
Our Annual Member meeting will be Monday, December 2, 2019, at 7:00 pm at Croton Falls Community Church, 628 NY-22, Croton Falls, NY 10519. We will welcome our new Board members and thank outgoing board member Valerie Cahalin. Everyone is welcome to attend and join us for a pizza party. Please RSVP to hillfont@thehvbs.org if you are attending, so that we have enough food for all.
Please note we meet for our monthly Board Meetings on the first Monday of the month at the Croton Falls Community Church. The meeting is from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. All are invited to attend. Consider joining us at a meeting to find out more information about the Society. Our goal is to bring blues music and education to the Hudson Valley.
Visit the Events page on our website (www.thehvbs.org) for all upcoming jams and shows. We constantly update our website with new events, and have currently listed shows into March!
We especially want to THANK all of you who have become members, sponsors and blues lovers. Your support made it possible for the HVBS to make the first year journey a success! The following members have joined our blues family in the last 2 months: Sandra Weiss, Mark Shane, Maggie Stahl, Michael O'Brien and William Lang.
Just a note...as we approach #GivingTuesday on December 3, please consider making a donation to the Ian Bennett Memorial Fund. You can make your donation in honor, memory or appreciation of someone special, and we will send them an acknowledgement of your thoughtful gift. We would especially like to thank Deb and Michael Murphy for their generous donation to the Ian Bennett Memorial Fund. Every dollar helps us to provide for musicians in need.

- Volunteering to help. Contact us at info@thehvbs.org if you would like more information or to share your skills.
- Make a tax deductible end-of-year pledge to the Hudson Valley Blues Society or the Ian Bennett Memorial Fund, which has been established to help local Hudson Valley musicians who are struggling with medical and health-related financial needs. Details are available at our website (www.thehvbs.org).
- Continue to keep your membership active.
- Most importantly is to help spread the word about the Hudson Valley Blues Society. As a group we can help keep the blues alive in the Hudson Valley.
